I have had many experiences since I arrived in the Czech Republic. For example, with my first host family, I visited many forests and rivers. The most impressive and distinct thing I noticed was the style of buildings here. In Mexico, it is not common to find the kind of architecture that is so prevalent in this country.
Now, with my second host family, I have visited many small towns. One of them is called Mlečice, a truly beautiful town with kind and welcoming people, which is not always easy to find here. I have also explored many rivers, villages, forests, and historical sites in Prague.
At the beginning of my exchange, I didn’t know or talk to anyone. However, now I get along with most (if not all) of the exchange students in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. When the first orientation meeting was planned, I started meeting everyone, and I immediately connected with those who spoke my language. Later, I began talking with non-Spanish speaking students as well. Nowadays, I hang out with all the exchange students who are in Prague, and I have shared many funny and unforgettable moments with them
The hardest obstacle for me has been the language; it is a difficult one for people who do not speak a language similar to Czech. Despite that, I have noticed that I have made quite considerable progress. Now I can talk about myself, my family, my country, among other things. Some things that have helped me a lot are the Czech classes I have at school and also the classes that Rotary offers in the afternoons. Another thing that has been helping me is my friends from school and some of my exchange friends who know a little more Czech than I do. I have also been studying and practicing with my current family so that I can speak it correctly and be confident in what I am saying in the language I am learning.
