The first week I arrived in Český Krumlov was one of the most exciting of my life. Everything was new: the language, the cobblestone streets, the old buildings, and the peaceful atmosphere of the small Czech town.

I was barely settling into my new routine when my host sister invited me to spend the weekend with her friends rafting, something I’d heard about but never tried. I accepted without much hesitation, even though I didn’t quite know what to expect.

First week

Český Krumlov

The day dawned sunny and perfect for adventure. We all met by the Vltava River, where the rafts and life jackets were waiting for us. At first, I felt a little nervous, but my host sister’s friends were very kind and explained how to paddle, how to balance the raft, and what to do if I fell in. Soon we were all laughing as we tried to stay on course in the gentle currents.

As we traveled down the river, we talked about everything: school, food, the places they wanted to show me, and even the differences between our cultures. I felt very welcome and happy to be able to share that moment with them. The scenery was simply spectacular; the castle towers were reflected in the water, and the sound of the river accompanied us the whole way.

At the end of the trip, we were tired but very happy. I had tried something completely new and made new friends. That first rafting experience was not only fun but also a wonderful way to start my adventure in Český Krumlov.
