This past February my host family took me on a trip to one of the beautiful places I have ever seen. We went to the Austrian Alps for a week of skiing and snowboarding. Being from Washington state I have seen many beautiful mountains, but nothing compares to the breathtaking views and amazing slopes of The Alps.

My host mom signed me up for lessons seeing as how I have never attempted to snowboard. Within an hour I had a good foundation and was in love with the sport. Even with all the falls I took, it was perfect. The scenary, the weather and the sport made for an unforgettable first day in Austria.

My host family enjoys winter sports so it was a nice way to really bond with them. We would ski and snow board during the day and then spend the evening back in our cottage playing games and eating traditional Austrian food like Wiener Schnitzel and Apple Strudel.

While in Austria, we took a day trip to Salzburg, the city where Mozart was born. Exploring the cathedrals and cafes of this gorgeous city was so exciting and full of history.
Being in Austria was definitely a highlight of my exchange but also of my life. I will always think of how incredible it was that I learned a sport I now love in one of the most beautiful places in the world, all while spending quality time with my sweet host family.
